Here is information on how you can get your own carved pumpkin!
- My pumpkin background:
I have been a professional pumpkin carver in America since 2015. (I believe I am the first Scandinavian to do this professionally.) I have worked 10+ seasons for “The Rise of the Jack O’ Lanterns.” I carve both real, authentic pumpkins and artificial foam pumpkins.
- How long do they usually last?
REAL AUTHENTIC PUMPKINS: As long as the pumpkin isn’t gutted, it can last for several weeks, even up to a month. I seal the carved surface with a special spray, which acts almost like adding a new layer of skin.
ARTIFICIAL PUMPKINS: These last for many years since they are made from a special type of foam.
- Can I order a customized pumpkin?
Yes, I do accept commissions, but it depends on my availability. As a professional pumpkin carver, the Halloween season is extremely busy. I apologize in advance if I am unable to accommodate your request. To ensure you get a real pumpkin in time for Halloween, it’s best to reach out early, ideally in August, so I can plan my October schedule accordingly. Alternatively, you can catch me at live carving events where pre-made pumpkins are available for purchase. Another option is to order an artificial foam pumpkin, which can be commissioned any time of the year.
- My rates and process:
REAL PUMPKINS: Custom pumpkins (real) start at $125 and up, depending on the design, size, etc. I do not ship real pumpkins due to their fragility, but I can arrange a pickup location in Sleepy Hollow/Tarrytown.
ARTIFICIAL PUMPKINS: Custom foam pumpkins start at $350 and up, depending on the design (shipping not included but can be arranged).
As with all artistic work, many hours go into creating the final result. The process includes sketching the idea, finding the right pumpkin for the design (each pumpkin is unique), inking the pumpkin (I use Indian Ink), carving, and finally sealing it.
